Setting General data and hyper tagging for ESEF

This guide describes how to set the hyper tagging in Tangelo.

In the “Document” section of your document, you can add a ESEF General data section by editing the document and choosing the Section button from the breadcrumb menu on the bottom of the screen.

Then choose ESEF, ESEF General Data from the Insert menu in the editor.

This allows you to fill in the General Data information and contains the following items:

  • Current reporting period
  • Previous reporting period
  • Identification number of reporting entity

The monetary unit and precision will also have to be set here. Do so in the properties pane. This setting will apply for all tables in the document. On table level you can overrule this. This has been set during the initial configuration by Tangelo.

The rest of the general data is to be tagged in the running text of the document (hyper tagging). Often the texts needed are located in note 1 of the notes to the consolidated financial statements.

What is hyper tagging

Hyper tagging basically let's you select a piece of text that you can classify with a specific tag.

Why and where to use hyper tagging

Hyper tagging replaces most of the general data found in the document root of every ESEF document in Tangelo. The ESMA made this mandatory as of the reporting season of 2021. The idea is that general data will be tagged in running text within your document. Most of the information is located in the notes of the financial statements, often in the first note.

Select a portion of text that contains the desired information. The go to the Insert menu and choose ESEF, ESEF hypertag.

Then select the correct tag for that text:

Work your way through all the tagging. In some cases text has to be rewritten to accommodate for the tags. Always take in consideration that the texts still have to human readable.

See a list of all text tags you should tag in your document when applicable here: List of text tags (hypertags/inline tags). Use this list as a marker so you have all tags in your document. In case one of these is not applicable, it should not be added to the document.

In most cases this information is already there since it's passed over from the previous document/year. If it's not set yet, use the method described above to add the tagging to your document.
