Linking the Notes column items to the corresponding Note section

Notes column items can be linked to the corresponding Note section in two different ways:

  1. by adding a (short) label in the Notes (*) column of the Excel table, and a link in the Tangelo section
  2. by adding the note number in the Excel table, the link will be automatically created in the Notes column in the Tangelo section

Which approach is the most suitable depends on the chance the note numbering will change/move around in the foreseeable future. In most cases approach 1 is recommended since in this approach no changes to the existing Excel or labelling are needed when the amount or order of the note sections changes. Furthermore you have more control over the section link being used.

1) using a (short) label and link

In this case a label (must be unique and not contain spaces !) needs to be added to the Notes column of the table in Excel, for each row that needs to be linked to a Notes section, for example:

After setting up the linked table in Tangelo the next step is to link the labels in the Notes column to the correct Note section. For this select the label in the Notes column (1) and from the Insert menu choose 'References - Section' (2):

A popup window showing the document structure will appear and the note section can be selected:

Depending on the display option, a final step is needed after the link has been added. Click on the label (1) and choose 'properties' (2):

In the property panel on the right the 'show' property (1) can be set accordingly:

In this case the 'section number' display option is set which results in this output:

Finally, if you want to test the PDF output and check if the link is working you need to generate a PDF file of the whole (**) Tangelo document.

2) add note number in Excel, manual linking setup needed in Tangelo

In this case the note numbers are added to the Notes column in the Excel file:

After setting up the linked table in Tangelo you can sync the Excel data to Tangelo as usual. And when generating the PDF the note numbers will be linked automatically to the corresponding note section.

(*) for the Notes linking option to work properly the table column header cell needs to contain the term 'Notes' (or another specific term like 'Toelichting' in Dutch). If needed additional terms can be added by contacting your Tangelo contact.
(**) this is a technical requirement
