Introduction
Use this article when no standard taxonomy concept accurately represents a financial fact in your report. In these situations, you can create a custom concept (also known as an extension concept) and connect it to existing taxonomy concepts through anchoring.
Summary
After following these steps, a custom concept is created, anchored to the appropriate taxonomy concepts, and available for use within your report.
Steps
- Open the financial statement table containing the line item that requires a custom concept.
- Select the line item.
- Click Choose to open the taxonomy browser.
Search for and select the standard taxonomy concept that best represents the meaning of the line item.
This concept will be used as the wider anchor for the custom concept.
Hover over the selected concept and click the + icon.
The custom concept dialog opens.
Define the custom concept
Enter a label for the custom concept.
The label should clearly describe the reported fact. Tangelo automatically generates the technical tag name based on this label.
- Select the appropriate concept type.
- Enter custom labels when you report is written in another language than the default (English).
- Review the generated concept details.
Define the wider anchor
- Verify that the selected wider anchor correctly represents the economic meaning of the custom concept.
- If necessary, search for and select a different wider anchor.
Define narrower anchors (optional)
- If additional anchoring is required, click Add Narrower Anchor.
- Search for and select one or more concepts that represent a more detailed classification.
- Repeat as needed.
Depending on the taxonomy and reporting requirements, additional anchoring relationships may be required.
Create the custom concept
- Review the concept details and anchoring structure.
- Click Create Custom Concept.
- Confirm the creation.
The custom concept is added to the taxonomy mapping and becomes available for tagging.
Apply the custom concept
- Return to the taxonomy browser.
- Search for the newly created custom concept.
- Select the concept and apply it to the line item.
Expected Result
A custom concept is created and linked to the appropriate taxonomy concepts through anchoring.
The concept is available in the taxonomy browser and can be used to tag financial facts in the report.
The row of this custom concept is highlighted with a different color then green that is used for the default concepts. The color depends on the taxonomy that is chosen for this document.
Remarks
- Custom concepts should only be created when no suitable standard taxonomy concept exists.
- Review custom concepts with your auditor before finalising the filing package.
