Introduction
Use this article when a Tangelo document needs to be translated by a translator service. It explains how to export the document for translation and how to get the translated version imported back into Tangelo.

After following this article, you can export a Tangelo document in xml data format and have the translated document imported back into Tangelo as a new document.
Preconditions
Translator's software must support the xml data format
Make sure the translator's software can handle the xml data format. The translated file must be returned in the same xml data format so it can be imported back into Tangelo.
The import step requires a technical action by a Tangelo engineer. Plan this with the Tangelo support desk in advance. If you have a tight deadline, schedule it as early as possible.
Steps
Export the Tangelo source file for translation. In the Export menu, set the export file format to Tangelo document, then use the red button to download the file.
- Send the exported file to the translator service.
- After completion send the translated file to the Tangelo support desk to import it into Tangelo as a new document.
Expected Result
A new, translated Tangelo document is available in Tangelo for further use.
Remarks
Do a test run
To avoid surprises during the live import, schedule a test run with the Tangelo support desk in advance of the final import.
Import will create a new document, no merge option available
It is important to keep in mind that importing a file will create a new document, automatic merging of imported content into an existing document is not available.
Linked tables using Excel data
Decide upfront whether linked tables are also translated by the translator, or whether the translated tables are managed in Excel and need to be relinked and synchronized after import.
In the latter case, agree on named ranges upfront to avoid manual relinking afterward:
Keep the original and translated data in the same Excel file, using named ranges with a language suffix such as "_NL" and "_ENG":
Set up the original Tangelo table link definition using one language's named range, for example "PL_NL":
After the translated document is imported into Tangelo, update the table link's named range to the other language, for example "PL_ENG":
