Introduction
Use this article when reviewing an iXBRL package in Tangelo. The inline viewer allows you to inspect tagged facts, review taxonomy information, validate calculations, and investigate issues reported in the validation report.
The inline viewer is one of the most useful tools when troubleshooting validation findings, reviewing tagging decisions, or preparing an iXBRL package for auditor review.
Summary
After reading this article, you will understand how to use the inline viewer to inspect tagged facts, review concept details, understand calculations, and navigate through the generated iXBRL report.
Overview
The inline viewer displays the generated iXBRL output together with detailed information about every tagged fact in the report.
To highlight tagged values, activate the checkbox Highlight XBRL Elements on the top right of the screen.
By clicking a tagged value, the Fact Properties panel opens and displays all available information about that fact.
This information can help you determine whether the correct concept has been used and whether the tagged value has been configured correctly.
Fact Properties
When selecting a tagged value, the Fact Properties panel displays information such as:
Concept
The taxonomy concept assigned to the selected fact.
Examples:
- Non-current assets
- Revenue
- Property, plant and equipment
The documentation label provides the official taxonomy definition of the concept and helps determine whether the correct concept has been selected.
Fact value
Displays the reported value included in the filing.
Date
Shows the reporting date or reporting period associated with the fact.
Accuracy and Scale
These fields indicate how the value is represented in the filing.
For example:
- Units
- Thousands
- Millions
This information is derived from the configured monetary precision.
Type
Indicates the type of fact.
Examples:
- Monetary
- Percentage
- Per share
Balance
For monetary concepts, the taxonomy may define a balance type:
- Debit
- Credit
This can be useful when investigating sign-related validation warnings.
Labels
The Labels section contains the labels available for the selected concept.
Examples include:
Standard Label
The standard presentation label shown in the report.
Documentation Label
The official definition of the concept from the taxonomy.
This is often the most useful label when determining whether a concept has been tagged correctly.
Total Label
For total concepts, the taxonomy may provide a specific total label.
References
The References section displays references to the underlying accounting standards associated with the selected concept.
For IFRS concepts, this may include:
- IAS references
- IFRS references
- Relevant paragraph numbers
- Links to the official taxonomy documentation
These references can help explain why a concept exists and how it should be applied.
Calculations
The Calculations section shows how the selected fact participates in taxonomy calculations.
For total concepts, this section displays:
- The contributing line items.
- The calculated relationships.
- Whether the calculation is consistent.
This is particularly useful when investigating calculation inconsistencies reported in the validation report.
For example, selecting Non-current assets may show all underlying asset categories that contribute to the total.
If the displayed calculation does not match the structure of the financial statements, the assigned concepts or values should be reviewed.
Footnotes
The Footnotes section displays any footnotes associated with the selected fact.
If no footnotes are linked, this section remains empty.
Sections
The Sections section shows where the selected fact appears within the report structure.
This can be useful when a concept appears multiple times in the filing and you need to identify its location.
Using the inline viewer for troubleshooting
The inline viewer is often used together with the validation report.
A common workflow is:
- Open the validation report.
- Copy the concept name from the validation message.
- Search for the concept in the inline viewer.
- Open the tagged fact.
- Review.
This makes it easier to determine the cause of validation findings and identify the required correction in the source document.
Expected Result
You can inspect any tagged fact in the iXBRL package, review its taxonomy information, understand how it participates in calculations, and use this information to validate or troubleshoot the filing.
Remarks
- The inline viewer is intended for reviewing and analysing the generated iXBRL output.
- The viewer provides significantly more detail than is available directly within the editor.
- Always use the documentation label when in doubt whether the selected concept accurately reflects the reported fact.
