Introduction
Use this article to create, edit, and manage tables in Tangelo documents. It covers the basic table functions: creating a table, changing rows, columns and widths, setting properties, adding titles, and controlling how tables display and break across pages.
Summary
After following this article, you can create a table, add or remove rows and columns, adjust column widths, set table properties and titles, and control how large tables span pages and display.
Create a table
Navigate to the Insert tab in the top menu and select Tables.
- Choose the table size. Tangelo generates the table with the first row set as a header row.
Customize table settings by clicking inside the table and opening the Table tab in the top menu.
Add or remove rows and columns
- Add: click the + icon to add a row or column.
- Remove: select the row or column header (it turns blue), then click the displayed icon to remove it.
Adjust column widths
- Go to the Table tab in the top menu.
- Use the Column widths button to make adjustments.
By default, Column A is set to auto-sizing since it often contains the most text, while other columns typically hold numerical data. For connected tables, Tangelo automatically adjusts column widths based on data from the Excel file.
Table properties
Common properties: access basic table settings via the Table tab in the top menu, or by right-clicking inside the table.
Breadcrumb path: the breadcrumb at the top shows your current position within the table and lets you adjust settings.
Properties pane: located on the right, this pane contains attributes tailored to your configuration. Use it to change the table width, apply styles, or add special attributes.
Add titles or subtitles
- Click the table in the breadcrumb path.
- Use the submenu to insert the title, subtitle, or caption. Alternatively, right-click the table to access the same options.
You can also use this menu to move the table up or down within the text.
Tables spanning multiple pages
Tables stay together by default
By default, Tangelo prevents tables from splitting across pages and keeps them together on the next page.
For large tables that need to span multiple pages, disable the Keep together setting at the table level to allow breaking across pages.
How tables are displayed
- Smaller tables: displayed with all content visible.
- Larger tables: initially collapsed to improve loading times.
To view a collapsed table:
- Click the gray box representing the table. Tangelo shows a summary of the table.
Click the box again to reveal the full table.
