Introduction
Use this article to connect an item in the Notes column of a linked table to its corresponding Note section in the Tangelo document.
Summary
After following this article, Notes column items link to their Note section, either through a manual label or automatically through note numbers from Excel.
Preconditions
The table must already be linked to a data source. See setting up the linked table first.
Choose an approach based on how likely the note numbering is to change. Approach 1 is recommended in most cases: it needs no changes to the Excel file or labels when notes are added, removed, or reordered, and gives more control over which section link is used.
1 - Using a label and link
-
In Excel, add a unique label without spaces to the Notes column for each row that needs to link to a Note section.
-
In Tangelo, select the label in the Notes column, then choose References - Section from the Insert menu.
-
In the popup, select the Note section from the document structure.
-
Click the label and choose Properties.
-
In the properties panel, set the Show option to the display format you want.
Expected Result
The label now displays the reference in the format you chose, for example the section number:
To check that the link works, generate a PDF of the whole Tangelo document.
2 - Using automatic note numbers
-
In Excel, add the note number to the Notes column.
- Sync the Excel data to Tangelo as usual.
Expected Result
When you generate the PDF, the note numbers link automatically to the corresponding Note section.
Remarks
Column header must contain "Notes"
For the Notes linking option to work, the table column header cell must contain the term "Notes" (or another configured term, such as "Toelichting" in Dutch). To add other terms, contact your Tangelo contact.
Testing requires a PDF of the whole document
Note links can only be verified by generating a PDF of the whole Tangelo document, not a partial export.
