Search and replace throughout a document

Use the Search and Replace function to quickly find and update text throughout an entire document. This is useful when company names, terminology, dates, references, product names, or other recurring text needs to be changed consistently across multiple sections.

Search and Replace is available from the Search panel in the editor or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H (or Cmd + H on Mac).

Steps

1. Open the document in the editor.
2. Open the Search panel on the right side of the editor.
3. Select the Replace tab.
4. Enter the text you want to find in the Search field.
5. Enter the replacement text in the Replace field.
6. Start the search.
7. Review the search results.
   • Use the navigation buttons to move to the next or previous occurrence.
   • Verify each occurrence before replacing it.
8. Choose one of the following options:
   • Replace to update only the currently selected occurrence.
   • Replace All to update every occurrence found in the document.
9. Review the updated content.

Expected Result

The selected text is replaced throughout the document according to the chosen replace action.

Remarks

• Use Replace when you want to review each occurrence individually.
• Use Replace All when you are confident that all occurrences should be updated.
• Search and Replace works across the document, including content in different sections.
• Large replacements can affect pagination, line breaks, tables, and page layouts.
• After replacing text in headings, titles, or formatted content, verify the generated output.
