Redact information in your document

Use the Redact feature to mark sensitive information in a document that should be hidden in specific PDF outputs. Redaction allows you to maintain a single source document while selectively concealing content when generating a redacted version of the report.

Redacted text remains visible in the editor and standard PDF outputs, but can be automatically hidden when generating a PDF using the Redacted output format.

Typical use cases include confidential information, personal data, commercially sensitive content, draft annotations, or information that should only be visible to specific audiences.

Steps

1. Open the document in the editor.
2. Select the text you want to redact.
3. Open the Start menu.
4. Click the Redact text button (eye icon).
5. The selected text is now wrapped in a redact element.
6. Verify that the redact element has been added:
   • The selected text is marked in the editor.
   • In the structure path at the bottom of the editor, an additional Redact text element is visible within the paragraph hierarchy.
7. Continue editing the document as needed.
8. Generate a PDF.
9. In the Format dropdown, select Redacted.
10. Generate the PDF.

Expected Result

The selected text is hidden in the generated Redacted PDF, while remaining available in the editor and standard output formats.

How Redaction Works

The Redact feature does not remove content from the document.

Instead, Tangelo stores the content normally and applies the redaction only when a PDF is generated using the Redacted format.

This makes it possible to maintain a single version of a document while generating different output versions for different audiences.

• Redacted text remains available in standard PDF outputs unless the Redacted format is selected during PDF generation.
• Multiple redact elements can be used throughout a document.
• Redaction can be applied to individual words, phrases, sentences, or larger text fragments.
• The editor structure at the bottom of the screen shows when a redact element is present inside a paragraph.
• Always generate and review the Redacted PDF to verify that all sensitive information is correctly hidden before distribution.
• Redaction is applied during PDF generation and does not permanently remove content from the document.
