Use this article when you want to reorganize the structure of a document. You can reorder sections within the same level, move sections to a different parent, change their level in the hierarchy, or create copies of existing sections.

After following the relevant steps, the selected section is moved or copied to the desired location in the document structure. Child sections are moved or copied together with the selected section.

Overview

Before making large structural changes

Consider creating a new document version or roll forward before making major structural changes. This allows you to compare the result with the original document and restore content if needed.

Reorder a section within the same parent

Use Move when you want to change the position of a section among its sibling sections.

  1. Click the hamburger menu of the section.
  2. Select Move.
  3. Choose To top, Up, Down, or To bottom.

Move or copy a section to a different parent

Use Cut to move a section and preserve existing cross-references. Use Copy to create a duplicate while keeping cross-references linked to the original section.

  1. Click the hamburger menu of the section.
  2. Select Cut or Copy.
  3. Navigate to the target parent section.
  4. Open the hamburger menu of the target parent section.
  5. Select Paste.

The section is added under the selected parent while keeping its current section type.

Move a section to a different level

Use Paste as when you want to change the section type, for example from a paragraph to a subparagraph.

  1. Click the hamburger menu of the section.
  2. Select Cut or Copy.
  3. Navigate to the target parent section.
  4. Open the hamburger menu of the target parent section.
  5. Select Paste as.
  6. Select the desired section type.

The section is added under the selected parent using the chosen section type.

Remarks

  • Always use Paste or Paste as from the parent section where the content should be placed.
  • Child sections are automatically moved or copied together with their parent section.
  • The destination location must support the selected section type when using Paste or Paste as.
  • Moving content between sections with different layouts may require adjustments to tables, images, or other content.
  • Some features are only available at specific section levels and may not be available after changing the section type.
