Introduction
Use this article when a section cannot be edited because it is locked. Sections are automatically locked when a user opens them for editing, preventing other users from making changes at the same time.
Summary
After following these steps, you can identify who has locked a section and remove the lock if you have the required permissions.
Steps
- Open the document structure.
- Locate the section marked with a lock icon.
- Hover over the lock icon to see which user has locked the section.
- If the section is no longer being edited, open the hamburger menu of the locked section.
- Select Force unlock.
- Confirm the action.
Tips
- To quickly expand all sections in the document structure, hold CTRL (Windows) or Command (Mac) while clicking the expand icon.
Locks are normally removed automatically when users leave a section using Save and exit.
Using Save and exit helps prevent unintended locks from remaining active.
Remarks
- A lock may remain active after a browser crash or when a user leaves the editor without using Save and exit.
- Only the user who created the lock or a user with Manager permissions can remove a lock.
