Move or copy special elements or text content

Introduction

Use this article when you need to move content that the standard Tangelo copy/cut & paste menu cannot handle - for example to a different hierarchy level (section, chapter, or paragraph) or to a different document type. For a straightforward move within the same structure, use the copy/cut & paste submenu in the document table of contents instead - see the section 'Move or copy document sections'.

Summary

After following this article, you can copy a full section content to a new section, or copy a single special element (such as a table, highlight block, or KPI block) together with its content to another location.

Choose the approach that fits your goal. Use method 1 to move the whole section content. Use method 2 to copy one specific special element and the text it contains.

1 - Move the whole section content

  1. Create the new section(s) where the content needs to go.

  2. Open the section with the content in the Tangelo editor and select the content that needs to be moved.
  3. Perform the copy/paste per main element (title, subtitle, introduction, text if available). To select an element precisely, click on the element name at the bottom - see (3) Introduction in the screenshot below.
  4. Press CTRL-C to copy.
  5. Go to the new section, click on an empty line (not in TITLE), and press CTRL-V to paste.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 for the text and any other elements.

2 - Copy a specific special element

Sometimes you want to copy a specific component and all the text it contains (such as a table, highlight block, or KPI block) in the Tangelo editor. Copy and paste the element in one go with the steps below.

  1. Go to the content you want to copy.
  2. Click on the element (in this case, a table) you want to copy - see mark (1) in the screenshot below.
  3. Click the element name in the navigation path below - see mark (2). The element turns yellow.

  4. Press CTRL-C on your keyboard.
  5. Go to the document and section where the content needs to go.
  6. Place the cursor on the position where the content needs to go.
  7. Create a new empty special element of the same kind.

  8. Place the cursor in the newly created empty element and click the element name in the navigation path below (same as step 3).
  9. Press CTRL-V - the special element content appears.
  10. After checking that the content is correct, go back to the original content, select the element, and remove it using the Remove option in the navigation path.
