What are document type properties and how can I use it

Introduction

Tangelo is configured through one or more document types. A document type holds the settings that determine how documents of that type are created, maintained, and published. Use this article to understand what a document type contains and which properties and privileges you can manage.

Summary

This article explains what a document type is, which properties you can change, and how to assign document type privileges and default privileges.

What a document type contains

A document type contains settings for:

  • Document and content structure, and document input (templates, data source, interfaces).
  • Available output channels (online, PDF, print).
  • Collaboration.

Documents of this type are created, maintained, and published based on these settings.

Walkthrough

The guide below walks you through the document type properties settings.

Document type properties

Most document type properties are determined by configuration and are fixed as a result. You can change the document type icon that is used on the start screen.

Privileges

If you have the manager authorization level for a document type, you can assign the following document type privileges:

  • Create: create a document of this type. The user who creates a document of this type automatically gets the manager privilege for that document.
  • Manager: assign privileges for this document type.

Default privileges

After a document is created, one of the first tasks is to assign privileges to individual users and groups on document sections. Default authorization simplifies this for privileges that are repeatedly assigned for each document of a certain type: the root section of every new document gets the assigned default privileges.
